How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Drop your photos
Drag .heic or .heif files, or a whole folder, onto the box. You can also click to choose files or paste a photo with Ctrl+V. Conversion starts immediately.
- Adjust if you need to
JPG at quality 90 is the default. Switch to PNG or WebP, limit the longest side to 1920 px for sharing, or turn on Remove location before posting photos online. Press Apply to all to redo finished files.
- Download
Save single photos, everything as a ZIP, straight to a folder on a computer, or to Photos on a phone. Each row shows the old and new size.
Key features of HEIC to JPG Converter
Convert a whole folder at once, and keep the shot date and camera details in the JPG.
-
A whole folder at once
Drop many HEIC files or a folder. They convert together, and you can download them as one ZIP.
-
Keeps the date taken
Capture time, camera and lens details are copied into the JPG, so the photos still sort by when they were shot.
-
Location stripped on request
Turn on Remove location and the GPS data is erased before the JPG is saved.
HEIC vs JPG: what's the difference?
| HEIC (HEIF) | JPG (JPEG) | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Newer, based on the HEVC video codec | Older, from 1992 |
| File size at similar quality | Smaller | Larger |
| Color depth | Up to 10-bit and wide color | 8-bit |
| Opens on Windows, Android, websites | Often not without extra software | Everywhere |
| Multiple images in one file | Yes (bursts, depth maps) | No |
iPhones save HEIC because it fits more photos into the same storage. The catch is compatibility: many Windows apps, websites, upload forms and older devices can't open it, which is when converting to JPG helps.
What happens to dates, camera info and location?
With Keep date and camera info on (the default), the converter copies the photo's EXIF block, which holds the capture time, camera model, lens and exposure, into the new JPG. Photo apps then sort the converted pictures by the date they were taken, not the date you converted them.
EXIF can also contain GPS coordinates. Turn on Remove location and the GPS section is erased before the JPG is written; rows show a GPS removed tag so you can see it worked. The orientation tag is reset because the pixels are already turned the right way, so portrait photos never end up sideways.
Colors: wide color to standard sRGB
Recent iPhones capture in the wider Display P3 color space. The converter writes standard 8-bit sRGB JPGs, the space most screens, websites and printers expect. Where your browser decodes HEIC itself (Safari), its color management maps P3 colors into sRGB; elsewhere the built-in decoder outputs the image's colors as stored. Very saturated reds and greens may look slightly less vivid on wide-color screens, which is the normal trade-off of JPG.
Stop the iPhone from saving HEIC
If you'd rather get JPGs from the start, open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG (videos as H.264). Photos you already took stay HEIC, which is what this converter is for. iPhones also convert to JPG automatically when you share some photos to apps or send them by email, but not when you copy files to a computer by cable.
Other ways to open or convert HEIC
- Windows: the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store let the Photos app open HEIC; it can then save a copy as JPG one photo at a time.
- Mac: open the photo in Preview, choose File → Export and pick JPEG. For many files, select them all in Preview first.
- Here: no install, any operating system, whole folders at once, with EXIF and location handled for you.
Working with WebP files from the web instead? Use WebP to PNG. Need stills from a video? Video To Frames.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos.
Is my HEIC data safe and private?
Absolutely. Your HEIC photos never leave your device. This HEIC to JPG converter reads the files in your browser, decodes them there, and writes the images back to your device. We don't store, transmit, or have any access to your HEIC photos, file names, or other file information. Your privacy is 100% guaranteed.
Can I convert many HEIC files at once?
Yes. Select several files, drag in a whole folder or use Choose a folder. Several photos are converted at the same time and you can download them all as a ZIP.
Does converting keep the date the photo was taken?
Yes, when Keep date and camera info is on, which is the default. The EXIF capture date, camera and lens details are copied into the JPG.
How do I remove the location from my photos?
Turn on Remove location (GPS). The GPS data is erased from the EXIF block before the JPG is saved, and each converted photo shows a GPS removed tag.
Will the JPG lose quality?
JPG is a lossy format, but at quality 90 the difference is very hard to see. Choose PNG for a lossless copy, which is much larger.
Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPG, so a JPG of the same quality is usually larger. Lower the quality slightly or limit the size to 1920 px if file size matters.
Does it work on Windows and Android?
Yes. Browsers on Windows and Android can't display HEIC by themselves, so the converter uses a built-in HEIC decoder (libheif compiled to WebAssembly) that loads only when needed.
What about Live Photos and burst photos?
The main still image of each HEIC is converted. The video part of a Live Photo is a separate file and isn't included.
